This is men's community for the 21st Century.
The ManKind Project flies in the face of rigid stereotypes about the "Sensitive New Age Man" AND the "Macho Man". We ask men to stop living a vicarious adventure through their TV's and step into a

Men not afraid to revolt against repressive social norms, take off their masks and break through their personal barriers. Men ready to take real risks and step into their full power. Men not afraid to inhabit ALL the characteristics required of m resiliency, integrity, courage, creativity, innovation, adaptability, compassion, empathy, radical self-responsibility, inclusiveness, generosity and respect.
The demands and pressures that men face today require an extraordinary level of courage, authenticity and tenacity. Are you ready to take a risk and see what life's like on the other side of the door you've come to? If you're ready to answer a call from deep within your heart and mind, you're in the right place.

ManKind Project Men 'Grow the Mo' for Movember to Support Men's Health
(PRWEB) November 13, 2014
MOVEMBER [] is an international campaign to raise awareness and fund research about prostate and testicular cancer. While the ManKind Project (MKP) is not affiliated with Movember, the organization supports efforts to raise awareness about men's health, and many MKP men (often referred to as New Warriors) participate. Some of 2014's participants have created a Facebook group called &Warrior 'Stache& as a meeting place to &talk 'stache& in a good natured competition.
The ManKind Project invites their membership and their men's groups to participate in MOVEMBER events, and to donate to causes that support men's health. The group in recent years has also partnered with the Men's Health Network, a Washington DC based organization doing outreach and advocacy for a variety of men's health issues.
Tony Wilkinson, Executive Director for the International organization says, &I enjoy being a part of this effort. My moustache generates lots of laughs, and some great conversations. The ManKind Project is in the business of men's transformation, and transforming our relationship to our bodies is core to what we practice. Here in the UK, this is a great opportunity to open a dialogue about all aspects of men's well-being ... physical, emotional, psychic ... and even spiritual.&
&I think it's hard for many men to get honest about their health, and especially to talk about it openly,& says Boysen Hodgson, the Communications Director for the United States region, &Movember puts it right out there ... this is part of a conversation that we need to have. Our position at the ManKind Project is that it's time to stop going it alone. Having support is a matter of life and death. Don't let fear or denial or stubbornness kill you. Listen up ... your family, community, and the world ... we need you.&
The ManKind Project runs personal growth trainings and hosts a network of peer-facilitated men's groups where men from many backgrounds mentor each other for personal growth and goal achievement in all areas of their lives. This nonprofit organization, which began in the United States, is now in well established in nine regions around the world, and is growing in several others.

International Men's Support Organization Celebrates 20 Years in the UK
Dorset, UK (PRWEB) July 30, 2014
The ManKind Project UK & Ireland 'Celebrate 20' bringing supporters and family from around the world to celebrate 20 years of life-changing personal growth work and community.
On June 13-15, MKP-UK & Ireland marked its landmark twenty years of transformative men’s work last month at Gaunts House in Dorset, UK. The intention: to honour MKP-UK & Ireland’s founders and celebrate this milestone achievement by integrating men, women and children into a memorable weekend event.
The sun shone, connections were fortified and joyful space was created by an attendance of nearly 200 guests!
The ManKind Project (MKP) UK and Ireland is one of 9 global regions of the ManKind Project, an organization that is "Changing the world, one man at a time." According to the organizations literature, MKP conducts trainings that challenge and deconstruct damaging male stereotypes and provides men with a forum to look at the past, heal old patterns of behaviour, and take responsibility for creating a better future for themselves and the ones they love.
"It was truly amazing and very, very special. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to spend a weekend in the company of my whole family, knowing that everyone would be held with love and respect...a good time had by all!" said Elizabeth.
Men and women from many associated and like-minded communities shared space where all were welcome, encouraged to connect, celebrate, and create a shared vision for the future. Members of Woman Within, Women in Power, A Band of Brothers, Boys to Men, Shadow Work and A Write to Freedom stood alongside ManKind Project brothers, friends and family.
"What an incredible weekend!! There were so many moments when I was stuck by what was unfolding and saw the imagination, care and creative thinking that had clearly happened in order for each of those moments to manifest as they did. So I thank you for all the hours of dreaming, talking, planning and typing that made all it come to life. I’m still feeling so nourished and enriched by all I experienced and know that will reverberate for a long, long time," said Rebecca
Several participants remarked that the space felt 'magical.' The physical space of the venue: Gaunt House offering peaceful backdrop—guests camped on lush grounds or slept inside the magnificent house. They feasted together on lawns and under marquee draped in blue, white, yellow and red. They reveled at the Ceillidh, danced to MKP leader John Kurk’s ‘The 4 Directions’ band, were graced by a glorious choir, were engaged by a ‘social’ clown who enriched the weekend by connecting people with their own inner-clown, and they found moments to be grounded in ritual. Space of trust was also fundamental to enable co-gender groups to circle, a Red Tent be erected, and sweat-lodges (men’s, women’s and co-gender) to hold sacred ground.
Fireside storytelling engaged all ages, and drum circles rallied in a walled garden.
Passionate people generously shared their interests and knowledge. Workshops were packed: meditation, yoga, 5-Rhythms, Ayurveda, and Woman Within nurturing space. Vets Journey Home traveled from the USA to talk ab one ManKind Project leader presented mythodrama, another gave opportunity to delve into MKP International’s Chairman, David Kaar, presented the ‘oldest archetype’ in his Dragon Workshop.
"I got to experience a couple of sessions, knowing that [my son] was in a safe space and experiencing the same energies that have made my life so rich. The Fathers’ honouring circle was a definite highlight for me–hugely moving and affirming–but there are so many other things I could pick out which reflect the obvious love and care which went into organising this celebratory event: fireside check-ins, soul-stirring songs, magical costumes, new friendships, fireworks and feasting." [Nick]
Into the mix, the presence of children injected an abundance of youthful energy—they giggled in the pool, jumped in a bouncy castle, crafted sovereign crowns and colourful art to wear and admire, and draped a huge hundred year-old tree in a parachute with delight. Children and adults honoured loved ones on Father’s Day, followed by a ceremony to honour men and women from communities who have passed on.
"It felt really great to be part of the team. I enjoyed helping get the fireworks started. I thought the site was amazing and I loved playing in the pool." [Gabriel, age 8]
"I thought the whole weekend was lots and lots of fun. I felt privileged to be part of the team. There was a great atmosphere and I loved being around such lovely people throughout the weekend." [Amber, age 10]
Celebrate 20 followed through with its intention: the work of MKP-UK & Ireland was heralded, sacred space created and a unified bond of all in attendance formed lasting memories. Guests traveled from afar--Belgium, Germany, Croatia, France, Switzerland, Ireland, America and beyond--so C20 was indeed a truly global event.
Celebrate 21 is now set for 2015, building on this year’s inaugural success, promising to bring expanded ideas, fresh energy and celebration for all to enjoy together. The journey continues.

New Warrior? New Masculinity? Nonprofit is Waking Men Up to Healthy Masculinity at the New Warrior Training Adventure
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The ManKind Project is setting the bar for the evolution of masculinity in face to face intensive trainings and free confidential men's groups. They're out to prove that a new kind of manhood is central to improving our society.
ManKind Project Announces Summer Training Schedule
The ManKind Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nonreligious, nonpartisan organization, announces a full calendar of leadership and personal development opportunities through the summer of 2014. The organization is anticipating expanded growth of men's peer-support communities around the world. The New Warrior Training Adventure is now being offered over 80 times per year across the United States and around the world in 9 global regions.
For a complete listing of upcoming New Warrior Training Adventures, see the calendar at:
What is a New Warrior?
A New Warrior is a man who has attended the New Warrior Training Adventure, an intensive weekend experience tackled by over 54,000 men around the globe in the last three decades. The training program asks men to take a hard look at themselves as men and make a commitment to ongoing personal development to make a difference in the world.
The ManKind Project's New Warrior Training Adventure (NWTA) is not a workshop in any traditional sense, where a speaker works the room from center stage, complete with a light show. The program is usually held at a camp facility where the participants have the opportunity to interact with the natural world in a busy weekend of group and individual activities.
Says Boysen Hodgson, the organization's Communications Director for the USA Region, "It's a full immersion experiential adventure, a modern hero's journey. At the NWTA, with a staff to participant ratio higher than 1 to 1 and a uniquely blended learning style framework, the processes and the participants create the transformations. There is no way to hide out in the back of the ballroom at the NWTA. It's a real time, deep dive into the richness of modern masculinity - in all its beauty and brutality."
When asked about what ManKind Project is hoping to accomplish, "I see a world where men are taking individual and collective action to create healthier and more nurturing communities. When I look at the immense amount of violence perpetrated by men, when I look at child abuse and domestic violence, or when I look at the staggering statistics about men committing suicide, or other problems like obesity, fatherlessness, and addiction ... I feel compelled to action. The men I know in the ManKind Project feel the same way. We want a better world for our wives and partners, for our kids and grandkids. We take action to make changes at the root of the issue ... with fundamental beliefs and behaviors connected to masculinity. We create a new way of being a man in a world that really needs good men."
Hodgson said that men from 18 to 83, from all walks of life and backgrounds have participated in the New Warrior Training Adventure, and emphasized that the experience was taylored to the individual men participating.
Aaron Taylor, Super Bowl XXXI Champion NFL player for the Green Bay Packers said of the New Warrior Training Adventure, "I trusted my buddy, and I said 'Well, if he thinks I'll get something out of it, whether I have fun, or I learn something... it would be worth the fear that I had about going to something like that.' And that was the most powerful 48 hours I've ever had in my life."
Another defining characteristic of the ManKind Project is the follow-up available for any man who participates. Across the United States and around the world, there are weekly or biweekly men's groups (called I-Groups) meeting to support men in peer-facilitated personal growth. These groups are free and confidential spaces for men to practice skills intended to improve parenting, work, and relationships. ManKind Project men's groups serve nearly 10,000 men every week. Many of these groups are regularly open to visitors. You can find a men's group by visiting the ManKind Project's web page at .
Wentworth Miller, actor and author best known for his starring role in the hit show Prison Break, said of the ManKind Project, "MKP has quickly become one of the cornerstones of who I am and how I move through the world today."
Says Hodgson, "There is a new way of being men in the world, being practiced by greater and greater numbers of men every day. It's not the hegemonic masculinity still the norm in much of the public it's an evolving community based exploration where men are finding masculinity better suited to the complexity of today's culture. What brings them together is a belief that the world needs emotionally mature, accountable, strong, and compassionate male partners, leaders and role models."
When asked what kind of impact this has, Hodgson responded, "Huge. Right now all over the country there are projects, organizations, and community activites launching with help from New Warriors that are transforming communities, impacting tens of thousands of people. When I hear about the anti-violence work being done in Chicago by New Warriors, or work with mentoring in the UK, when I hear about documentary films dedicated to creating new opportunities for boys and men featuring New Warriors ... this is an exciting time."

Jim James of My Morning Jacket on the ManKind Project - Pitchfork Magazine
Recently, Jim James, previously from the well known band 'My Morning Jacket' had some bold words to say about modern masculinity and the ManKind Project in an interview with Pitchfork Magazine. .
Pitchfork: What's your take on the overarching presence of masculinity in culture and society?
JJ: I've always struggled with masculinity, because I believe that every living being is part male and part female. Spiritually, you're both. That's why I've always felt uncomfortable as a man on this earth -- I've got male and female energy. This is a world that tells you that's wrong -- "you're a f*cking pussy" -- and a lot of people feel that way, which makes this world hard to walk through. There's this book, [Neale Donald Walsh's] Conversations With God, where this guy writes questions on a piece of paper, and God answers them. He talks about how, long, long ago, women were the rulers, and men gradually took over. A lot of people feel like we're slowly beginning to roll back towards women taking over -- but even when women ruled the earth, it was imbalanced, because the women looked down on the men. The men were just the sex dudes who moved heavy rocks out of the way. They weren't treated equal. I've been thinking about this stuff a lot.
There's this group called ManKind Project, they lead retreats to try and help men feel more OK with all the different sides of being a man. I went on one of those retreats because I was so intrigued. It was f*cking amazing. The experience was about taking accountability for yourself and your actions-- just trying to be a better person. As long as we've been alive, the world has been hugely tilted in favor of masculinity and is totally fucking itself because of it. That's nowhere close to being over, but hopefully, we're turning the spirits back on their axis to make it even.
The ManKind Project is showing up in some powerful ways in the culture these days, to be a part of it, do what Jim James did - come to the .
ManKind Project Men on CBS Sunday Morning - Developing Healthy Friendships
This clip from CBS Sunday Morning - "Friendship: Close ties that enhance, extend life" - features men from the ManKind Project South Central area talking about the connections that they experience being part of the ManKind Project. Willie Baronet, Scott Prentis, Ron Nevelow, and John Groll were interviewed for the section on what it means to have powerful and supportive friendships. The segment featuring ManKind Project men starts at 6 minutes.
CBS Sunday took an interest in the ManKind Project because of an article that featured one of the men in the segment, Ron Nevelow, who is a therapist in Dallas.
If you are ready to build your friendships with men, and improve every aspect of your life, you're invited to find a men's group near you.
Here's an excerpt from the segment:
But things are different just outside of Dallas, where Scott Prentice, John Groll, Ron Nevelow and Willie Baronet may do the usual guy things, like "trash-talking."
"It means making fun of his abilities, 'cause he can't play basketball," said Willie. "John can't play poker. Scott can't out-fish me, those sorts of things."
"I've got pictures to prove otherwise, that's all I can say," Scott retorted.
You get the point, especially when they join other friends for a game of whirlyball -- kind of a mash-up of lacrosse and basketball, played in bumper cars.
But they say that the friendship they've developed over more than 15 years is far different than the stereotypical friendship most people think of between a bunch of sports-loving, poker-playing guys.
"I've never found a group that's so understood me, accepted me, loved me, and honored me as this group does," said Scott.
"We are willing to share deeply with each other what our fears are, what's not working well, and I think most men yearn for that connection, but don't feel comfortable going after it," said Willie.
"You're all married, what do the women in your lives think about these friendships?" asked Braver.
"I guarantee you, without these guys, I wouldn't be married," said Scott. "I had, you know, a fear of commitment. They helped me walk through what it was that was keeping me from being able to have a wife."
Wentworth Miller, the ManKind Project, and 'Men's Work'
UPDATE: Wentworth Miller talks about the ManKind Project Community at a Human Rights Campaign gala dinner in Seattle WA. See the video below.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
August 21, 2013
Wentworth Miller III, an
best known for his role in the popular series “Prison Break,” recently made news on , , the , and beyond when he posted a letter to the St. Petersburg film festival declining an invitation to attend.
In it he states, “As a gay man, I must decline. I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government. The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly.”
Full Content of the letter .
He signed the letter as a member of GLAAD, the Human Rights Campaign, and The ManKind Project.
The ManKind Project (MKP) is honored to be named in this short list with two organizations taking a stand for the human rights of LGBT people.
As an organization that welcomes all kinds of men, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, religious affiliation, or other difference, MKP strives to be increasingly diverse and culturally aware. The ManKind Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and is not affiliated with any religious practice or political party.
MKP creates intensive opportunities for men to learn about themselves and become the partners, husbands, fathers, sons, and change agents they dream of being in a diverse and supportive community of men. Our training programs and
(called Integration Groups, or I-Groups) exist to build and support awake, accountable, purpose driven, emotionally mature, powerful, and compassionate male leaders and role models.
Miller had this to say about his participation in the ManKind Project, “MKP has quickly become one of the cornerstones of who I am and how I move through the world today.”
Recently, Miller shared a story about the change in himself as a result of his work with the ManKind Project. .
'Men's Work,' like that being done by the ManKind Project, is now spreading quickly among younger generations of men looking for healthy and powerful ways of expressing modern masculinity in a culture where messages about what it means to be a man are often contradictory, self-serving, and ineffective. This flexible '' sensibility is one that embraces multiple expressions of masculinity, and focuses on self-awareness, collaboration, and purposeful action over domination and destructive competition.
MKP’s flagship training, “The New Warrior Training Adventure” is regarded by many as one of the most powerful and transformative experiences available for men today. If you’re a man inspired to do whatever it takes to reach your next level of success, consider the . As follow-up for the training program, the ManKind Project USA (), along with MKP's 8 global regions, also have a wide network of free, confidential men’s peer mentoring groups meeting weekly or biweekly around the globe. The New Macho - One Vision of Mature Masculinity
Newsweek published a series of articles the week of Sept 20, 2010 on "The New Macho" and masculinity in the complex world that we live in.
While it is certainly a difficult task to try and reclaim the word 'macho' as anything other than the stereotypical violent and out of touch guy portrayed in much of the media, the articles make some good points. One thing that we notice in reading them is that many of the men we know, respect and love in the ManKind Project represent the idea of the "The New Macho" very well. We call these men New Warriors. So bravo, men, keep on evolving!
The ManKind Project teaches skills for emotional intelligence and radical personal responsibility. Through men's groups and trainings, we help each other become more resilient, more awake and more inspired to follow our purpose and live our mission. Here are some characteristics that a member of the ManKind Project has put forward as part of the'New Macho' paradigm.
The New Macho
He cleans up after himself.
He cleans up the planet.
He is a role model for young men.
He is rigorously honest and fiercely optimistic.
He holds himself accountable.
He knows what he feels.
He knows how to cry and he lets it go.
He knows how to rage without hurting others.
He knows how to fear and how to keep moving.
He seeks self-mastery.
He's let go of childish shame.
He feels guilty when he's done something wrong.
He is kind to men, kind to women, kind to children.
He teaches others how to be kind.
He says he's sorry.
He stopped blaming women or his parents or men for his pain years ago.
He stopped letting his defenses ruin his relationships.
He stopped letting his penis run his life.
He has enough self respect to tell the truth.
He creates intimacy and trust with his actions.
He has men that he trusts and that he turns to for support.
He knows how to roll with it.
He knows how to make it happen.
He is disciplined when he needs to be.
He is flexible when he needs to be.
He knows how to listen from the core of his being.
He's not afraid to get dirty.
He's ready to confront his own limitations.
He has high expectations for himself and for those he connects with.
He looks for ways to serve others.
He knows he is an individual.
He knows that we are all one.
He knows he is an animal and a part of nature.
He knows his spirit and his connection to something greater.
He knows future generations are watching his actions.
He builds communities where people are respected and valued.
He takes responsibility for himself.
In times of need, he will be his brother’s keeper.
He knows his higher purpose.
He loves with fierceness.
He laughs with abandon, because he gets the joke.
This is a picture of mature masculine, of healthy masculinity - it is one redefinition of masculinity for the 21st century. By no means is this list complete. You are welcome to come and add your gifts to this community.
