第三方登录：表示“接壤”的英语怎么说？
王国栋教授《深层英语语法》里有以下谬论：“用 on 表示接壤或相邻关系”： Mongolia is on the north
of China. 蒙古在中国的北方。(二者边界线接壤用 on,
表示相邻关系)。”还有其他中国英语专家也持此谬说。
中国很多英语老师都大讲特讲过on the south
of 和 to the south of
的区别，所谓有接壤用on，无接壤用to。这说法根本就是错误的。网络上也充斥着这个谬论。比如这个链接：
这种谬论还在中国英语界大肆流行。最担心的是，不知道哪一天哪一位命题老师还会用on
the south of 和 to the south of 来让考生选择，而且还把错误答案当成正确答案！

这个句子我第一次见到是在《牛津高级英语学习者词典》（OALD)第2版（1963，香港）。
国内的《新英汉词典》收录了这个句子
Mexico is to the south of the
又自己编了个：
The Democratic Republic of Viet Nam is on

中国英语界普遍选择性地忽略牛津词典原句，普遍坚持错误，坚持认为要表示接壤，就用"is/lies
on the south of" 这样的结构：Mexico is/lies on the south of the
USA.(墨西哥位于美国的南面。）我曾经在英国的 论坛上的 ASK A TEACHER
栏目里问了这个句子，英美澳加的英语老师们异口同声反对使用 Mexico is/lies on the south of the
USA.这样的结构和句子。他们说必须用这个表达方式：Mexico is/lies&(to the)
south of the USA. 而实际上 Mexico is/lies& to the
south of the
USA.这个句子就只收录在《牛津高级英语学习者词典》（即引进中国的《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》）第1和第2版里。此后的版本把这个句子删除了。&
我搜索了英美语料库，发现：实际上，is/lies on the south of
这个结构，在19世纪及以前也只是极为偶尔被使用，20世纪到现在在英国和美国都没有人使用了。
《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》（OALD)原来的第1、第2版里的 Mexico is to the south of the USA
.&&这个表达法是正确的，但是这个表达法现在也很少用了，所以后来的第3/4/5/6/7/8版都删除原来那个句子。
如果非要用 on
表示接壤必须使用其他动词如bound和border的相关结构：
Germany is bounded on
the west by France and on the south by Switzerland. 德国西面与法国接壤,
南与瑞士为邻。
下面句子来自张道真《高级英语词典》，句子后面的括号内是所引用的工具书：Germany

最正确而且最简洁的表达方式如：LONGMAN PHOTO DICTIONARY OF
AMERICAN ENGLISH 《朗文美语图片词典》:

可见在实际使用中，lies/is to the north/ south/ east/
也很少用，所以牛津词典2版后的各版删除了该句。最常用的是朗文图片词典的句型：
is/lies north/south/east/west
下面这个句子是正确的，但是它与表示“接壤”与否这个话题无关了：
