参加 Gordon Research Conference-高登研究会议 有感
上周参加了Gordon Research Conference, 中文应该翻译成＂高登研究会议＂吧，感觉收获很大。能和我们这一领域的大科学家面对面真的是一个很难得的机会。1. 在科学上还是很讲究＂江湖地位＂的: 连续４，５天会议中第一排的位置总是自觉的留给几个大牛（经常是在文献中看到如nature,science发文章和综述的传说中的人物），他们在会议中一直很认真，经常提问题的也是他们，会后你会看到很多年青一点或者学术上没有他们高的人，积极的寻找机会和他们交流，甚至晚餐是主动帮他们预留位置，就是想有机会和他们认识和交流合作。因为参会者都是同一研究领域的，大多对专业有很深的认识，所以让人觉得能够受到同行的尊重，是很大成就感。而且我觉得这些大科学家大多都很随和，他们很乐意和年轻人探讨学术上的问题，并且给出自己的建议，这种气氛很好。经常听说大科学家之间有很多竞争，导致私人关系不好等等，但是他们对我们这种年轻人还是很友善的，也许是我们的学术地位过低，不至于对于他们产生威胁吧。2. 科学上的竞争是很激烈的：看到这么多同世界各地的同一领域的科学家，你会意识到科学上的竞争是很激烈的，想在这么多人中脱颖而出是很困难的，同时如果想让同行认可你工作也是不容易的，所以大家利用各种机会去交流，建立学术上和私人的联系，对于彼此发展都是很重要的。3. 年轻的科学工作者应该抓住一切机会去提升自己：在会议中，应该敢于提出问题，不要害怕自己出错，我的一个老师曾竟对我说过＂不要害怕提问题，只有愚蠢的报告和愚蠢的回答，没有愚蠢的问题＂，所以年轻的我们面对大科学家的时候，要积极主动，可以提出你的疑问，在会议中向他们提问，对你是一个很好的锻炼。会后都有poster section，要充分利用这一机会，找到自己感兴趣的海报，和作者面对面的交流，从中得到有用的信息，如果自己有海报，就要好好准备，主动向看你海报的专家，同行汇报，讲解你工作，认真听取他们的建议和问题，对于自己的实验也会有很大帮助。最后，自己恭喜一下自己，在１００多份海报中，我竟然获得了poster winner prize, 仅仅只有４个人，不错。下边是网上的一些关于高登的一些信息:高登研究会议(Gordon Research Conference)是由约翰 霍普金斯化学系教授Neil E.Gordon(以下简称高登)于1931年发起的。经过70多年的发展，高登研究会议已经由原来的几个分会议发展为拥有几百个分会议，内容涉及物理、化学、生物等几乎所有领域的大型会议。高登研究会议为不同国家的科学家们提供了一个交流的平台。会议期间不准拍照，不准摄像，不准录音，会议具体内容也不向外界公布，因此科学家们可以将最新的实验进展，甚至并不成熟、完善的理论拿出来与大家交流探讨。高登研究会议对出席人员也有要求。每个分会限额150人，一般被邀请参加的都是在相关领域有较大影响的知名科学家，他们中多半在《Science》、《Nature》这样的著名期刊上发表过文章，不少人世界著名大学任教。佩服，楼主太有才了，能够想像参加这样的会议是多么兴奋的事情啊！写的不错啊有这样的机会与大牛近距离交流真是羡慕啊楼主真的厉害哦！也希望自己能有机会接近大家，拥有大家风范。能参加国际有名的会议确实不错,上次我都准备去了,飞机票也买好了,居然不给签证,而且也没有理由,也没有申诉,我只好以后再也不去了,白受气!虽然过去了快一年了,但是到现在想来我仍然不平,

& & & &Gordon Research Seminars (GRS)&会议项目将于7月25，26日在香港科技大学举行，本届主题为“纳米结构中的自旋动力学”。该项目还紧接将联合举办Gordon Research Conference (GRC)，时间为7月26日到7月31日。欢迎感兴趣的老师、同学参加。
& & & &GRC最早由约翰斯o霍普金斯大学 (Johns Hopkins University) 的戈登博士 (Dr. Neil E. Gordon) 于19世纪20年代末发起，致力于为同一研究领域以及跨学科研究的科学家们提供最直接有效的交流方式。该会议项目包含了涉及生物，化学，物理等科学领域的不同分支，旨在促进人们交流特定学科分支的前沿科研信息。每一场GRC都集中在约一周的时间内让特定领域的科学家们高强度的讨论，展示自己的科研成果，这样直接有效且主题明确的方式，提供了非常高效的科学传播途径，这是发表文章或者大型科学会议无法实现的。近年来，GRC 开始在会议前两天举办相应的GRS，为年轻的科学家们（博士后，博士研究生）提供一个特别的交流平台。
& & & 本届会议将涉及到现代自旋电子学以及磁学中挑战传统智慧的许多问题。铁磁，亚铁磁，反铁磁等金属与绝缘体构成了研究磁动力学的多样性，其中，自旋波元激发可以被外界刺激控制，如磁场，电流，温度，光场（光子），声场（声子）等；磁化场可能包含的拓扑缺陷如磁畴壁，涡流和 skyrmions 对外部微扰的响应极为敏感；自旋轨道相互作用是激发和稳定磁性结构和动力学的重要来源；当材料尺寸接近纳米尺度，量子效应的出现也带来的新的挑战；此外，在飞秒，皮秒时间尺度的研究提供了全新的科研视角，是既有的理论所不能涵盖的。
& & & 本届会议邀请了来自学术界以及工业界，拥有或实验，或理论，或计算背景的领先研究者，专家学者等参加本次会议，目的在于将该领域的科研人员集中起来，交流思想，交换最新的研究进展，以及讨论最具挑战性的问题。特别地，在会议前举办的GRS，也为年轻的科研工作者（博士后，博士研究生）提供了一个交流的平台，他们可以接收来自专家学者对基本物理的深入解释，为参与后续的GRC奠定良好的基础；也能从活跃在世界科研舞台上的优秀科研人员那里得到良好的职业规划指导，对工作前景做好充分的了解；鼓励参加GRS的年轻科研人员继续参加后继的GRC，与来自世界各地的先进科研人员探讨合作。

&缘起年月初在香港科技大学举行的国际会议上，来自旧金山加州大学的会议主席为了说明会议的质量，用一张幻灯片列出参加过会议的诺贝尔奖得主：在会议的年历史中，除年外，其他每次都有诺奖得主，其中年同时有三位到会，、、、年同时有两位。1990年代中期我发起这一会议系列，那时中国的国际学术会议不多，好的更少。最初两次主要是我挑选演讲者，但我从未请诺奖得主到会，而是按其研究是否活跃、有趣、令人兴奋等作为选择标准。我自己挑选演讲者的年和年两次，当时都无诺奖得主。年邀请的麻省理工学院教授于年得奖，所以在今年主席的总结中也算有诺奖得主。我每次都参加此会，今年想起从未介绍过。学术交流物理、数学等学科的华人好像与我熟悉的生命科学有所不同。无论是海外还是海内的华人生命科学研究人员，学术交流恐怕不是长项。平时的讨论、学术报告、学术会议，可能都不长于实质的交流、讨论，更少刺激。华人生物界交流少的原因有多个。不能排除外国人（以及生物学的海外华人）有刻板观念：认为华人生命科学研究人员长于做实验、弱于需要动脑筋的科学互动。在刻板观念影响下，外国人有科学讨论时，不愿找华人，致华人较少机会参加好的讨论，即使参加也较少能很快激励他人。而对于生物学的华人来说，因为参加的会议少，遂反过来强化“讨论不重要”这一观念的情况，恐怕在今天还很普遍。学术会议如何有效，年代肯定需要借鉴国外行之有效的模式。国外科学家参会对海内外华人都有影响。与同为教授的夫人是本会的常客，可能除了我们几个中国人以外就数他们到会最多。于年就参加了北京的会议，从年至年的年中，他们两人除年外，每次都参加，且很认真。在年得诺奖以前于年、年参加过两次，得奖后组织者怕他太忙以为今年他来不了，结果他不仅来了，而且不讲其去年得奖的系列研究（囊泡释放），而是讲了新的系列工作（突触联系），包括很多没有发表的有趣实验。研究会议进入中国年我独立建实验室。年，我、鲁白、梅林与时任中国科学院院长的周光召先生联系，提出的建议之一是在中国举行小型、高质量的国际专业会议，得到周光召先生的积极支持。此前，我们从李政道对物理学同道的周先生的评价得知，周先生是有很高学术水平的科学家。我计划联合美国卓有声誉的戈登科学会议：（）。我联系了中美双方，商定了大的问题、了解了一般性细节性问题。大约年，中国科学院派香山科学会议组织者访美，先到我家，后去东海岸与负责人对接，确定香山会议与会议合作。会议有促进学术交流的固定风格。一般二十多人为应邀演讲者，一百多人参加。讲的是专业领域活跃且比较好的、要求含没有发表的研究，他们的费用由组织者解决。为了避免演讲者不参加讨论，规定演讲者参会必须超过小时，否则不予报销。的其他参会人员自由申请，有竞争性，如果获主席、副主席挑选，需要付费才能参会，不同于一些只要申请就能参加的会议。会议一般四天半，上午和晚上开会，下午自由交流，并有墙报。演讲者和参会者都住在学生宿舍。挑选好的演讲者很重要，能保证质量。另外考虑兼顾一些领域，美国近二十年提倡支持女科学家；我组织的时候，还考虑在美国和中国大陆之外，兼顾欧洲、日本、新加坡、香港、台湾等地的科学家。分子和细胞神经生物学会议到中国的第一个会议系列由我自己组织：分子和细胞神经生物学。首次会议于年在北京香山举行。我请当时在美国国立健康研究院的鲁白和中国科学院脑研究所的吴建屏老师为共同主席，我为副主席。考虑到当时中国经费缺乏，会议经费前几届基本都是我们从海外筹来的——例如鲁白就从美国的研究所争取来一两万美金，这在当时是很大一笔。以后还有一些经费是我们从香港等地筹来的。年，鲁白觉得国内后勤还有问题，所以我们与香港科技大学的叶玉如（）商定以后改到香港。年，会议迁址香港科技大学，管理和后勤都由叶玉如安排，近年在香港有多个的会议系列，扩大了范围，交给了会议管理人员。分子和神经生物学会议每两年一次。年我任主席，叶玉如为副主席，每次全体投票选副主席、年后就任，年后任主席。年月日至月日是第九次开会。会议有很好的交流，质量一直很高，除了选演讲者要求质量以外，还有一个原因是我开始时把会议的题目定的比较宽，这样保证每次比较好选演讲者。有些会议存在有时热门、但因为太窄而在学科发展过程中可能冷场好些年的问题。做研究可以不怕冷门，开会冷场就很麻烦。神经生物学领域大，美国神经科学年会十几年前每年就有两万多人参加、现在有三万多人参加，分子和细胞神经生物学差不多可以覆盖一半（另外的部分称为系统、认知、计算神经生物学）。会议称为“分子和细胞神经生物学”，就不难每次都能找到比较活跃的科学家，保证会议质量，并有吸引力。我们的会议不仅有很多优秀科学家参加，而且每次还吸引来科学刊物的编辑，多位主要刊物的主编曾到会，经常性有三至五位编辑，今年也一样，我开始以为只有两位，结果也是四、五位。编辑到会是我最初没有预计到的。会场内外交流，特别是中外科学研究者交流，是会议的目的。一批优秀的国际科学家两年一次、经常来中国参加会议，对国内的老师和学生产生影响是设想到的。但编辑的影响不是事先设想到的，他们的到会，对其前期了解新的研究和日后遴选稿件有用，有些研究者就是通过会议，得到了介绍自己工作的机会。海外华人科学家参会，对他们的事业以及他们与国内交流也有些作用。国内一些学生参会，对他们的成长有意义，虽然参会只是经历之一。年来，参加此会的学生有一批成长为教授，包括国内博士成为国外著名大学的教授，早期与国际上活跃的著名科学家交流不仅是机遇，而且感觉自己成为国际科学共同体的一员。除此，还有一些是没有预料到的。年会议空余时，蒲慕明、吴建屏、鲁白、梅林和我讨论，结果是后来五人联名提议成立中国科学院神经科学研究所，将原来吴建屏领导的脑研究所改建扩大，并用新体制，到年月正式成立神经所，年来在蒲慕明带领下，无疑对中国神经科学发展起了重要作用。我也认识了一些朋友，包括对“台独”意见不同者，但我也邀请他参加科学会议、不影响我们交流学术。有位海外华人是王世杰的外孙，提醒我想外蒙问题。这位科学家本人很优秀，而且性格和行为像我一样容易预计，观点都是正统的自由主义，做起事情来兼顾各方。本次会上有位比我年轻的科学家，在看我给会议主持人交代年会议要参照年如何改进时，发现原来我“政治正确”而评论：不要听饶毅说的，要看他做的。我理解有些人误解我，以为提批评就是做事激进。他们没有注意到，我只批评有原则性错误的大事；而一般事情，做时我选可行方案和方式。有关公事的批评，本来在正常环境里并非激进，而只有在畸形的环境中才显得“激进”而已。因为每两年去一次香港，大体了解香港生命科学界。如果年还不清楚香港和大陆何者发展快，到年就很清楚，香港的自然科学明显不如大陆的发展势头。开会之外，我曾在香港科技大学讲过课，但后来不去了，因香港社会和学生对科学兴趣很小。我在香港教课可能唯一的结果是，有位在香港读过书的大陆学生，后来去了美国做科学。香港的科学前途渺茫，恐怕香港政府有很大责任。我对香港政府的科技、教育政策的看法是：港英当局撤离后，香港一群经理人成为领袖，而既不知经理与领袖的差别，也不懂在急剧变化的情况下，怎样形成香港新的支柱，没有争取通过科技和教育发展香港。遗传学家徐立之在任香港大学校长时，我告诉他我的评论是香港对科学像是养猪事业：给高工资，但不给足够的研究环境和条件。这种说法确实挺难听，但它是香港政府的行动所导致的现状，而不是因我说才变成这样。如果香港政府或科技界对我的说法有意见，恐怕不要拘泥于脸面难看，而应该考虑采取行动支持科学，保证几十年后香港不重新成为中国不很重要的地方城市。世界一流城市，如伦敦、巴黎、旧金山、纽约、波士顿、东京、京都，皆科学重镇。香港现在的程度不可能和那些城市比，而且已经远落后于北京、上海的科学，会不会哪天只能以追深圳为目标？亦未可知。人文社科方面，我不清楚香港的情况。
