2】It is+adj.+to do sth. 所以本题选A .【小题3】通过sometimes we need to be alone. “有时我们需要独处”,可知,本句应该是“我们不总是想让人们在周围。”“在四周”是around。其他选项并没有此意,故应排除。所以本题选D。【小题4】通过But we will feel lonely “但是我们将感到孤独”可知,只有没有朋友的时候才会孤独。 That doesn't mean that they no longer like each other. As time passes, they will make up可知,本句的意思应该是“朋友有时相处不好”“有时”是sometimes。 We miss them very much“我们非常想念他们”可知,朋友搬走了,我们会不高兴的。 【小题8】通过上文的Sometimes friends move away和下文的write to them可知,此处应该是打电话,用call。 It is likely that we would never see them again可知,我们如果失去了朋友,我们会交新朋友。 Being happy helps you keep healthy.“快乐帮你保持健康”可知,前面应该用happy。

Short people, studies have shown , are more likely to have a stroke , suffer from high blood pressures and heart disease and be bullied in school .Now, researchers report that short people—at least in the past—were also more likely to die at a younger age than their taller peers.Their study, published in the Journal of Epidemiology (流行病学) and Community Health , found that short bones have something to do with short life for more than 1,000 years. The conclusion was based on 490 sets of adult skeletal(骨架) remains from an archaeological(考古学的) site in northeastern England , YC dating from the 9th century to about 1850 .About 55% of men and 73% of women died before the age of 45, and 39% of men and 56% of women died before age 30. The risk of death before age 30 declined as bone length increased.“This study provides evidence from an archaeological sample that long bone length is connected with age at death—those with smaller bones tend to die younger,” according to Dr. D.J. Gunnell of the university of Bristol& in the UK and colleagues .While it is not clear why short stature(身材) might be linked to earlier death , the researchers point out that height is an indicator of childhood nutrition, which may have long-lasting effect on health .“Mechanism (身体结构) for height-mortality(死亡) associations in the past may differ from those today , for example , short stature may have increased the risk of death in childbirth and this may explain the higher risk of premature(未成熟的) mortality in women,” Gunnell and colleagues write .“However, short bones, it would appear, have always been a marker of a short life,” the authors conclude.小题1:The title of the passage should be&&&&&&&&.A.Short people and their taller peersB.Men and women C.Short stature and short life D.Long life and short life小题2:“An indicator” in Paragraph 6 means&&&&&&&&.A.a studyB.a markerC.a riskD.an age小题3:Which of the following statements is Not true according to the passage?A.People with smaller bones were more likely to die younger.B.Women were more likely to die at a young age.C.Short-stature women bear higher risk of death in giving birth to babies.D.Most people were more likely to die at the age of 30 in the past.小题4:Short stature may be caused by&&&&&&&&.A.less childhood nutritionB.heart disease C.some illnessesD.high blood pressure小题5:The topic in this passage is probably connected with A.space medicineB.sports medicine C.social medicineD.industrial medicine

Eating foods high in trans-fats(fats present in artificial form in industrially-produced cakes and fast food...) and saturated (饱和的) fats increases the risk of depression, according to a Spanish study, confirming previous studies that linked “junk food” with the disease. Researchers also showed that some products, such as olive oil, can fight against the risk of mental illness.Authors of the wide-reaching study, from the universities of Navarra and Las Palmas, followed and analyzed the diet and lifestyle of over l2,000 volunteers over six years. When the study began, none of the participants had been diagn by the end, 657 of them were new sufferers.“Participants with an increased consumption of trans-fats presented up to a 48 percent increase in the risk of depression when they were compared to participants who did not consume these fats,” the head study author said. “The more trans-fats were consumed, the greater harmful effect they produced in the volunteers.”The research team found, at the same time, that after assessing the effect of polyunsaturated fats made up of larger amounts of fish and vegetable oils and olive oil, these products are associated with a lower risk of suffering depression.The report, published in the online journal PLOS ONE, noted the research was performed on a European population that enjoys a relatively low intake of trans-fats—making up only 0.4 percent of the total energy taken in by the volunteers. “Despite this, we observed an increase in the risk of suffering depression of nearly 50 percent,” said researcher Miguel Martinez. “On this basis we think it of great importance to take this effect into account in countries like the United States, where the percentage of energy derived from these fats is around 2.5 percent.”The report pointed out that the current number of depression sufferers in the world is around l50 million people, and has increased in recent years. This rise is attributable, according to the authors, “to great changes in the sources of fats consumed in Western diets, where we have replaced certain types of beneficial fats in nuts, vegetable oils and fish with the saturated and trans-fats found in meats, butter and other products such as mass-produced cakes and fast food.”小题1:What's the best title of the text?A.Junk Food and DepressionB.Depression PreventionC.Types of Fats and DepressionD.Depression Research小题2:Which of the following increases the risk of suffering depression?A.Fish. Researchers have found more evidence that suggests a relationship between races (种族) and rates (率) of lung cancer among smokers. A new study shows that black people and Native Hawaiians are more likely to develop lung cancer from smoking. It compared their risk to whites, Japanese-Americans and Latinos. Researchers at the University of Southern California and the University of Hawaii did the new study. The New England Journal of Medicine published the findings. The eight-year research studied more than 180,000 people. They included present and former smokers and people who never smoked. Almost 2.000 people in the study developed lung cancer.Researchers say genetics (遗传学) might help explain the racial and ethnic(种族的) differences. There could be differences in how people's bodies react to smoke. But environmental influences, including the way people smoke, could also make a difference.African-Americans and Latinos in the study are reported smoking the fewest cigarettes per day. Whites are the heaviest smokers. But the scientists point out that blacks have been reported to breathe cigarette smoke more deeply than white smokers. This could fill their lungs with more of the chemicals in tobacco that cause cancer. Scientists know that some diseases effect different groups differently. And some drug companies have begun to develop racially targeted (针对) medicines. Last June, the United States Food and Drug Administration approved a drug designed to treat heart failure in black patients. The name is BiDil. The agency called it "a step toward the promise of personalized medicine." 小题1:Researchers agree that it is&&&&&that may probably determine black people’s risk of lung cancer.A.the larger amount of smoking than white peopleB.the living style or habit of the blacksC.the depth of cigarette smoke into their lungsD.the physical strength to react to cigarette smoke小题2:People in the new study are made up of&&&&&&&&&.A.heavy smokers in AmericaB.smokers and non-smokersC.the Asians and HawaiiansD.the black and white people小题3:The production of BiDil referred to in the last paragraph is to&&&&&.A.explain different races react to some diseases differentlyB.tell the readers that racial differences exist in smokersC.show a big step people have taken in the medicine areaD.support the idea that it is easy for blacks to have cancers小题4:Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the author?A.The way of smoking may increase the risk of lung cancer.B.Race has nothing to do with the risk of having a lung cancer.C.The research was started by the New England Journal of Medicine.D.he risk of lung cancer lies I how much a person smokes.

Some students get so nervous before a test, they do poorly even if they know the material. Sian Beilock has studied these highly anxious test-takers.Sian Beilock: “They start worrying about the consequences. They might even start worrying about whether this exam is going to prevent them from getting into the college they want. And when we worry, it actually uses up attention and memory resources.I talk about it as your cognitive horsepower that you could otherwise be using to focus on the exam.”Professor Beilock and another researcher, Gerardo Ramirez, have developed a possible solution. Just before an exam, highly anxious test-takers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test.Sian Beilock: “what we think happens is when students put it down on paper , they think about the worst that could happen and they reappraise the situation. They might realize it’s not as had as they might think it was before and, in essence(本质上), it prevents these thoughts from popping up when they’re actually taking a test.” The researchers tested the idea on a group of twenty anxious college students. They gave them two short math tests. After the first one, they asked the students to either sit quietly or write about their feelings about the upcoming second test. The researchers added to the pressure. They told the students that those who did well on the second test would get money. They also told them that their performance would affect other students as part of a team effort.Professor Beilock says those who sat quietly scored an average of twelve percent worse on the second test. But the students who had written about their fears improved their performance by an average of five percent.Next, the researchers used younger students in a biology class. They told them before final exams either to write about their feelings or to think about things unrelated to the test.Prefessor Beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of B+, compared to a B- for those who did not.Sian Beilock: “What we showed is that for students who are highly test-anxious, who’d done our writing intervention, all of a sudden there was no relationship between test anxiety and performance. Those students most likely to worry were performing just as well as their classmates who don’t normally get nervous in these testing situations.”But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before an exam or presentation? Professor Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance.&小题1:What may happen if students have the problem of test anxiety?A.Test anxiety can improve students’ performance to some degree.B.Students’ attention and memory resources run out when worried.C.Students may not be admitted into their favorite college if worriedD.Test anxiety is sure to cause students to fail the test.小题2:Which of the following if TRUE?A.In the first math test, students who sat quietly performed better.B.In the second math test, students who wrote about their feelings did worse.C.Some college students are highly anxious test-takers while others are not in the tests.D.The result in the math test agrees with that in the biology test.小题3:What does the underlined phrase “popping up” mean?A.Giving outB.Fading awayC.Becoming clearly D.Appearing suddenly小题4:what is most probably Sian Beilock?A.A psychology professor.B.A philosophy researcher.C.A politics professor D.A tutor小题5:What is the main idea of the passage?A.It is a common practice for students being worried before a test.B.Being worried before tests does harm to students’ performance.C.Anxious students overcome test anxiety by writing down fears.D.It is important for students to overcome test anxiety.

With big handbags becoming a key fashion accessory(配饰) for working women, health experts are warning they can also become a key health concern.Bags for women have become bigger and heavier as designers combine briefcases with handbags and straps have become longer, resulting in many users complaining of neck, shoulder and back problems.“I see so many women with neck pains and headaches and what I usually do is look for their purse and pick it up,”said Jane Sadler, a family practice physician at Baylor Medical Center in Garland, Texas.“We take it over to the scale and weigh it and usually they’re anywhere from 7 to 10 pounds. We’re really going to see women with more and more problems later on if we continue the big purse craze.”William Case, a physical therapist(临床医生)in private practice in Houston, Texas, urged designers“to place a cute, educational caution tag(标签) on all bags to inform buyers of potential neck and shoulder dangers.”Above all, he suggested correct posture while carrying big purses, keeping the head and shoulders upright. Patients should also often change the size and weight of purses carried.“The extra-large purses are quite extraordinary. They look beautiful when the women wear them, but I don’t know how aware they are of the potential problems,”Case said.Placing objects on one shoulder was one of the least efficient(高效率的) ways of carrying a load, according to a professor from Cornell University in New York State.“This causes a great imbalance,”he said.“If a big bag is a fashion accessory, then occasional and symbolic use is fine. I know what you're thinking: pizza? For breakfast? But the truth is that you can have last night's leftovers in the a. m. if you want to.
I know lots of women who skip breakfast, and they have a ton of different excuses for doing it. Some say they don't have time, others think they're “saving” calories, still others just don't like breakfast food.
But the bottom line is that eating in the morning is very important when you’re trying to lose weight. “Eating just about anything from 300 to 400 calories would be better than nothing at all,” says Katherine Brooking, R, D, who developed the super-easy eating plan for this year’s “SELF CHALLENGE”. And even pizza can be healthy if it's loaded with vegetables, and you stick to one small piece.
Breakfast is one meal I never miss, and the same goes for most weight loss success stories. Research shows that eating breakfast keeps you from overeating later in the day. Researchers at the University of Southern California found that breakfast skippers have a bigger chance of gaining weight than those who regularly have a morning meal.
So eat something in the morning, anything. I know plenty of friends who end up having no breakfast altogether, and have just coffee or orange juice. I say, try heating up last night’s leftovers-it may sound crazy, but if it works for you, do it! I find if I tell myself, “You can always eat it tomorrow,” I put away the leftovers instead of eating more that night. Try it... you may save yourself some pre&bedtime calories. And watch your body gain the fat&burning effects.小题1:The underlined word "leftovers" in Paragraph 1 probably means ______.A.food remaining after a meal B.things left undone C.meals made of vegetables D.pizza topped with fruit小题2:What can we infer from the text? A.Working women usually have breakfast in a hurry. B.Many people have wrong ideas about breakfast.C.There are some easy ways of cooking a meal.D.Eating vegetables helps save energy.小题3:According to the last paragraph, it is important to ______.A.eat something for breakfastB.be careful about what you eatC.heat up food before eating itD.eat calorie- controlled food小题4:The text is written mainly for those _______.A.who go to work earlyB.who eat before sleepC.who stay up lateD.who want to lose weight}
