Job Description
A postdoctoral position is available for the Dr. Eric Gross laboratory in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University. 
The laboratory focuses on developing non-narcotic cardiac safe pain therapeutics. We are presently examining the cellular cross-talk which exists between nociceptive signaling pathways and the cellular signaling pathways which protect from ischemia-reperfusion injury.
The ideal post-doctoral candidate would have previous experience in either ischemia-reperfusion injury or pain research fields. Candidates with a strong record of productivity are encouraged to apply. The applicant will be responsible for working both independently and as part of a team, have excellent verbal and written skills, and have a strong work ethic. The candidate should also display the potential to be trained as an independent investigator and apply for independent funding when possible.

The mission of the center is to foster research leading to the development of blood tests and molecular imaging approaches to detect and localize early cancers. The Molecular and Cellular Biology Core at the Canary Center focuses on engineering probes to target specific cancer molecules. The probes developed in the MCB core are used in a variety of imaging projects aimed at cancer early detection.Job Description:The Cancer Early Detection Group in the Laboratory of Sanjiv S. Gambhir seeks a postdoctoral or research scientist who is highly skilled using the tools of molecular biology, and proficient in protein expression, quantification, and purification. The position requires the use of current methods in bioinformatics, directed evolution and protein engineering to develop of peptides and proteins that bind oncological molecular targets with ultra high affinity and specificity. In addition, the postdoctoral fellow or research scientist will use bioconjugate chemistry and radiochemical methods to generate positron emission tomography (PET) tracers that will be tested for their ability to detect tumors in living subjects. Biophysical and bioanalytical chemistry methods provide detailed characterization for quality-assured PET radiopharmaceuticals that are prepared for clinical translation. The Canary Center has an emphasis on clinical translation so the postdoctoral or research scientist candidate will have the opportunity to translate their work, which may include learning about cutting-edge imaging modalities and potentially gaining experience in filing exploratory Investigational New Drug (eIND) applications through the FDA. The Canary Center for Cancer Early Detection is committed to maintaining state-of-the-art protein engineering capabilities supported by three core facilities including Cell and Molecular Biology, Chemistry and Proteomics cores that provide scientific solutions and support.This position requires spoken and written English fluency sufficient to draft interesting and scientifically compelling manuscripts.Requirements: Necessary skills include molecular biology and protein expression and purification. Experience with Phage and/or Yeast display library screens is highly desirable. Candidates should have a PhD, and one (or more, on average) publication per year in peer-reviewed journals with impact factor of 3 or greater.The successful new hire will be highly self-motivated and creative. It is imperative that the candidate be comfortable interacting with scientists whose backgrounds are extremely diverse to work effectively in our multi-disciplinary team.
